KALAGI Town one of the Communities where Love Uganda Foundation Operates in Uganda which was greatly hit by HIV/ AIDS

This is an Islamic community located 19 kilometers right from Kampala city center along Gayaza road, one of the fastest growing towns in Uganda-following the construction of good roads leading to this town.On an all weather tarmac road. In Kalagi, the road from Mukono forms a T-junction with the road from Kasangati to Kayunga. The coordinates of the town are:00 30 18N, 32 45 00E (Latitude:0.5050; Longitude:32.7500). *The offices of Kalagi Town Council
* Kalagi Central Market
* The intersection of the Gayaza-Kayunga Road and the Mukono-Kalagi Road
* A branch of Opportunity Uganda Limited, a Tier II Financial Institution
The exact population of the town of Kalagi in Mukono District, is not known at this time. Its Surrounded by 10 major villages with minor towns I.e Nagalama, Nakifuma, Kasambya, Kasala, dundu, Nakasaja, Kiyunga, Kabembe, Kyabakade, Kyampisi with over 5673 Orphans and OVC out of the total number of 12500 children according to the OVC strategic plan. Out 5673, 2.1 % receive adequate support. There is absence of readily available legal services and this has led to gaps in children protection to the OVC and their households. Only few villages in this area have courts leading to increased sexual abuse, forced child labor, early marriages of Orphans and other vulnerable children , grabbing of Poverty left behind by OVC parents and low degree of conversance with relevant laws and where to seek legal redress among OVC, In the Education sector only 7% of OVC are catered for and limited availability of opportunities for access to education has led to continuous dropping out of school by OVC because of poverty at household level and subsequent failure by Orphans caregivers to raise extra financial support to complement tuition fees. In terms of Food security 9.3 % of OVC are provided for consequent upon which OVC and their households lack sufficient access to food. The situation and Lack of services and opportunities has aggravated vulnerability to HIV/AIDS –OVC-HIV/AIDS.
AZCM in the initiative phase of the project under legal support sensitized people including local leaders, Spiritual leaders in leaders in the legal issues pertaining to the rights and responsibility of Orphans and OVC. What is left and this is what we’re believing God for is to buy Land and build an Orphanage home were we can offer legal services and redress through strengthening their cluster based child protection, train them in apprenticeship skills and provide them with tool kits. And also train the Widows to generate income to meet the basic needs through farming skills, attached to experienced master artisans for further apprenticeship and training in business skills development. The Widows trained under the Project will be helped to form groups and helped to work together to engage in financially gainful and self sustaining business. By offering this extra support and new activities, AZCM aims to fulfill its mission of empowering the desired quality life of Widows, Orphans and Other Vulnerable Children in the society. The Program will continue to follow an integrated community based approach in a way that its core program Areas (CPAs) will be delivered systemically to complement each other in mitigating the predicament of Orphans and OVC and will result into capacity building which will ensure the sustainability of its objective after its implementation cycle. we aim to eradicate or reduce poverty, hunger, child mortality and disease, and to promote education, maternal health in these communities.
